Product Description
Livescribe’s Pulse Smartpen is a computer in a pen that records and links audio to what users write on paper. Users can tap on their notes to replay recorded audio. Notes and drawings with audio can be transferred to a PC for backup, search and replay. Users can share their notes online or email them as interactive movies. Software developer tools make it easy to create applications and content for the mobile computing platform.
Market Opportunity
The Livescribe computing platform enables a broad range of new applications in personal productivity, learning, communication and self expression. The Pulse Smartpen is ideally suited for students, journalists, doctors, consultants – anyone who works with pen and paper. Livescribe is initially targeting the U.S. college market of 17.1 million students.
DEMO Says
Nearly a year ago, Livescribe gave the world a sneak peek at its Smartpen…and that’s just about all anyone saw. We’ve brought Livescribe to DEMO to take a second look at this product, which is more than ink capture. Livescribe is a content creation tool. It is a platform for animated story telling. It is a marketplace for curriculum. It is ideas come alive.

I don't like the fact that I have to purchase special Livescribe paper for the Livescribe pen to write on. I prefer the EPOS digital pen which works on any paper.

Great looking idea and implementation, but what are the legal and/or policy implications of recording lectures, conversations, ...?

Livescribe's pen that translates what you write into different languages is very intriguing technology as is the smart paper that their business cards are made from. For $149 retail - got to own one.
